Why Donate to Beaumont Hospice?

When Shelley Wagner lost her mother to dementia in June 2011, it was a tragedy for her entire family. But out of that tragedy came some very positive feelings. Shelley thanks Beaumont Hospice —profusely — for that.

“I remember that moment in the hospital, that day that my mother stopped eating and swallowing, when our nurse told us it was time, time for hospice,” Shelley says. “My first thought was, ‘Really? Already?’ But everything from that day on was such a kind, positive, nurturing experience.”

“Because of hospice my mother was able to spend the last days of her life in the comfort of her home, in her living room,” Shelley says, “surrounded by her art and listening to her music. I recommend Beaumont Hospice to everyone, and I always will.”

Now, right now, you can help Beaumont Hospice care for hospice patients and their grieving families. Your tax-deductible gift will have a powerful impact, allowing us to continue to offer nurturing, supportive hospice care to families like Shelley’s.

The program is available to families, free of charge, for thirteen months after their loved one has died. Insurance programs don’t cover any portion of bereavement services, a fact that doesn’t stop us from reaching out to grieving families. Your contribution can help pay for this vital service.

“The bereavement program has enabled us to understand what happened and to begin the healing process,” Shelley says. “My dad, my sisters and I all use the counseling, and then we share what we learn with my brothers who live out of town.” Last November, Beaumont Hospice offered a seminar on how to get through the holidays after the loss of a loved one. “They told us what to expect to experience during our holiday rituals,” Shelley says, “what to expect at dinner on Christmas Eve and opening presents Christmas morning.”

“We made a stocking with my mother’s name on it and all of us wrote notes and put them in the stocking. I have to tell you—there was so much love in the room that it was one of the best Christmases ever, and that was because of what we learned from our Beaumont Hospice grief counselors.”
